In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. Summary

The Mechanical Engineer II role is a professional level position responsible for performing and analyzing routine to moderately complex engineering functions while applying mathematical, physical science, and engineering technologies. These functions include design and specification of quality control processes, and achievement of cost‑effective, reliable manufacturing and measuring processes.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate or lead teams to provide quality input for the development, manufacture, procurement, and acceptance of a variety of products and assemblies.
  • Develop methods and write detailed instructions for inspection processes.
  • Coordinate the design of product acceptance equipment and order testers, gages, and equipment for product acceptance.
  • Provide technical assistance to inspection areas.
  • Develop and monitor quality metrics, levels, and trends.
  • Analyze and make recommendations regarding product discrepancies.
  • Evaluate opportunities for defect prevention and implement specific, preventative corrective actions.
  • Develop test procedures and perform evaluation tests, capability studies, quality audits, data reviews, and other engineering evaluations utilizing Six Sigma methodology.
  • Interact with partners, customers, suppliers, and internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, production, and acceptance issues.
  • Prepare evaluation reports, analyze discrepancies, and recommend improvements to product, test equipment, procedures, and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET‑accredited program in Engineering or Physics.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on‑site as directed by management and as determined by the needs of the business.
  • United States citizenship.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for the position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations).
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated application of design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to routine through engineering projects.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma tools.
  • Experience working with ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience working with metal‑machined parts.
  • Ability to document and communicate improvements and innovations in approved and related processes.
