What You'll Do in Your Role:
This is a key position within the Magenta Service Center (MSC), reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting, Record to Report (RTR) - Corporate and General Accounting. The MSC is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accounting records, monthly accounting close activities, and accounting variance analysis.
Responsibilities include ensuring that the books are closed timely and accurately in compliance with accounting policies; that accounting estimates are appropriate given the related risks and uncertainties; and that accounting records contain the information necessary to meet internal and external reporting requirements. This team is also responsible for the development, modification, and maintenance of internal controls within these accounting processes to ensure the accuracy and objectivity of financial records, including compliance with SOX requirements.
The Manager, Accounting is responsible for leading the Cash Accounting team, overseeing the recording of related journal entries, performance of associated general ledger account reconciliations, monitoring and balancing of systematic intercompany accounts (including settlement processes), analysis of financial statement line variances, strengthening internal controls, and driving process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial integrity.
Un-carrier Responsibilities:
o Manage the monthly cash financial close process, including review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and disclosure schedules in accordance with accounting policies (both US GAAP and IFRS). Present results for areas of ownership to management, external auditors and business partners.
o Hire, coach and develop a high caliber and diverse team of individual contributors and managers. Set clear team vision and provide leadership in alignment with overall department goals and enterprise objectives.
o Responsible for identifying, communicating, and resolving risks and issues impacting financial area of responsibility.
o Design effective and efficient accounting processes, recommend innovative solutions for gaps and deficiencies, and implement best practices.
o Maintain knowledge of current accounting standards and SEC reporting requirements to ensure proper application in T-Mobile's close and financial reporting process.
o Support the SOX program by ensuring internal controls are in place and operating effectively within area of responsibility; ensure risks are properly mitigated and issues are appropriately resolved in a timely manner.
o Support quarterly and annual financial audits performed by internal and external auditors and ensure issues are appropriately resolved in a timely manner.
o Effectively partner with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and enterprise projects. Ensure accounting requirements are developed and communicated to project teams based on a solid understanding of the impacted systems/processes. Ensure financial risks identified during testing are properly mitigated/resolved, as applicable.
o Responsible for other projects as assigned.
The Experience You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
o Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.
o Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
o People management experience with a proven record of successfully leading and coaching as well as driving process improvement.
o Cash accounting experience.
o CPA or Chartered Accountant.
o Communications, technology, or retail industry experience.
o Possess a strong understanding of accounting theory, current accounting issues, accounting systems, and internal controls.
o Demonstrated ability to make fact-based decisions and recommendations.
o Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities while meeting set deadlines for team deliverables.
o Demonstrated ability to adapt and excel in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
o Effectively collaborates and communicates with all levels of organization and cross-functional business partners.
o
Experience with ERP systems and related reporting tools (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Blackline).
o Intermediate Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, sum if, v-lookup, etc.).
o Understanding of large-scale data mining and reporting tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power
BI, SQL).
