GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES -
Responsible and accountable for coordinating and supervising the nursing care provided to patients having operative or other invasive procedures. The nurse manager will provide functional direction to members of the perioperative team to achieve optimal patient outcomes while optimizing available resources including surgical case management and perioperative patient care coordination. Will serve as a clinical resource to the nursing staff; appropriately and accurately communicate and share information;
effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with team members; manage specialty area frustrations and challenges in a constructive and positive manner and assist others to work effectively under stress. The nurse manager must use appropriate channels of communication; facilitate the orientation/cross-training of students/staff to specialty area. The nurse manager will support the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO -
Supervises perioperative nursing staff as described above.
- Ensure that educational resources are available for perioperative team education and hold staff members accountable for attendance
- Demonstrate accountability by maintaining licensure, attending 100% of all mandatory in-services and 80% of staff meetings.
Assist with interviewing and evaluation of employees
Ensures staff complete competencies and in-service education necessary to promote a standard of knowledge across the perioperative team.
- Complete and adjust patient assignment so that care is delivered in a timely, cost-effective and clinically appropriate manner.
Oversees perioperative staffing process to provide coverage necessary.
Demonstrates behavior that is consistent with leadership.
Demonstrates good organizational skills based on the needs of the Surgical department as evidenced by following through on assigned tasks in a smooth and effective manner and determining priorities.
Acts as a role model, by utilizing professional standards, motivating peers and co-workers, stimulating growth and development in others.
Demonstrates knowledge of Perioperative nursing and maintains the highest quality of comprehensive patient care.
Utilizes the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation.
Leads perioperative teams and manages perioperative QI projects to achieve desired outcomes.
Identifying potential and ongoing department and organizational wide QI improvement projects, and participates in processes necessary to initiate and support change
Provides education for perioperative personnel regarding perioperative QI initiatives
Conveying QI, risk and safety concerns to Director in a timely manner
- Reviewing/completing variance reports or statements of concern appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Use positive/effective communication with patients, visitors, associates and others.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards and laws including TJC, CMS, OSHA, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES -
- Demonstrate leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must maintain necessary certifications and nursing skill sets in order to transfer knowledge base to new and established nurses.
- Participate in and contribute to committees, teams and projects in keeping with the organization's strategic goals.
- Must have a caring, calm and compassionate attitude.
- In-depth knowledge and skill related to surgical patients, population, supplies, documentation, equipment, and patient care requirements, etc.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently to facilitate the orientation/cross-train nursing staff.
- Working/Reference knowledge of policies/procedures/standards.
EDUCATION-
- Graduate of an accredited program of Registered Nursing.
- Associate Degree in Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE -
- One to two years' previous management experience is preferred with three years clinical experience in one or more specialty area(s).
- Two to three years in-depth knowledge and skill related to surgical patients, population, supplies, documentation, equipment, and patient care requirements, etc.) strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE -
- Current Active RN Licensure
- ACLS/PALS/BLS required
