Route Supervisor

The Route Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day execution and coordination of waste collection operations, ensuring routes are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This role owns daily route planning and scheduling, supports drivers and loaders in the field, and manages real-time operational adjustments to maintain service quality.

Acting as the primary operational link between drivers, dispatch, fleet maintenance, and customer service, the Route Supervisor provides hands‑on operational supervision and direction, resolves issues in real time, and drives continuous improvement across routing, safety, and service delivery. The role includes direct day‑to‑day supervision of the Dispatch and Communication Coordinator, drivers, and loaders, with responsibility for assigning work, setting priorities, and enforcing operational standards in a fast‑paced, field‑based environment.

• Supervise daily dispatch, communication, and field operations, providing clear direction to the Dispatch and Communication Coordinator, drivers, and loaders to ensure smooth, on‑time service delivery.
• Develop, manage, and enforce daily and weekly route schedules, assigning work, setting priorities, and reallocating resources as operational conditions change.
• Direct real‑time route execution, monitoring performance and issuing instructions to address service disruptions, traffic, weather, customer requests, or equipment issues.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for operational and service issues, including missed pickups, customer complaints, and breakdowns, ensuring timely resolution and accountability.
• Provide hands‑on operational supervision and guidance, including driver onboarding, safety reinforcement, route coaching, and performance feedback.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards, conducting field checks, ride‑alongs, and corrective follow‑up where required.
• Track, review, and report on operational performance, working with the Operations Manager to analyze route efficiency, productivity, and service quality, and drive continuous improvement.

• 3–4 years of experience in route‑based operations, fleet operations, logistics, waste management, transportation, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience creating and managing operational schedules in a field‑based or logistics environment.
• Proven experience supporting drivers or field staff and coordinating daily operational workflows.

• Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple routes and priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to make sound, real‑time decisions in a fast‑paced operational environment.
• Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to provide direction and resolve issues without formal people‑management authority.
• Comfortable working with dispatch, routing, GPS, or fleet management systems.
• Basic analytical skills to review route data and identify opportunities for efficiency and service improvements.

• Working knowledge of transportation safety standards, regulatory requirements, and safe operating practices.
• Commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture through proactive oversight and adherence to procedures.

• A typical work day is 6 am - 2 pm.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to perform field visits and ride‑alongs as required.
