CNN is hiring a Software Developer II to join the Marketing Technology and Messaging team. This is a great opportunity for an individual that is passionate about building engaging digital products that balance company goals and a great user experience. CNN is building new digital products, such as direct-to-consumer subscription products, new features and capabilities to support a premium news experience and engage our audiences, and new technologies to help us meet our global audiences where they are.

As a Software Developer II, you will work on a cross-functional team that is focused on building products and capabilities to enhance both the editorial and end user experience on  This is a great opportunity for an engineer that is passionate about building tools to communicate with News audiences at the right place and right time. The team focuses on leveraging the latest technology to empower storytelling that reaches users across a diverse set of platforms.

The team is comprised of Technical, Design and Product leads and a team of engineers that support each other through the planning, development, review, and deployment processes. You will play a crucial role on the team as you will be responsible for feature development, quality code, peer reviews, and operational support.

• Full stack development with JavaScript, HTML, CSS incorporating semantic code accessibility and responsive design methodologies
• Responsible for owning, implementing, developing, and maintaining complete high-priority features with thorough testing
• Work with a cross functional team in an agile environment, and contributing to Scrum, Planning, Retros, and Demos
• Support others on your team through code reviews, desk checks, and collaboration
• Seek mentorship from senior engineers and pair to resolve complex technical problems efficiently

• Understand engineering best practices, design patterns, reviews, testing and alerting
• Work primarily in modern JavaScript, maintaining and developing components
• Proficient on the command line in concert with Git, Docker, and AWS
• Experience with AWS infrastructure as code (Cloud Formation, Terraform), monitoring tools (Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail), and CI/CD tools (Code Pipeline, Code Build, Code Deploy)
• Unit testing experience using frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, and Mocha
• Solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms and hands‑onfamiliarity with both client and server technology
• Passionate about improving the codebase that you interact with
• Demonstrated success in rapidly learning new technologies, languages, or frameworks
• Familiarity with a wide range of languages, frameworks, platforms, and/or SDK
• Excellent communicator with your team members and peers
• Excited to positively impact the culture of CNN, both from an interpersonal level and from a code improvement standpoint

• Experience developing CMS platforms preferred
