• Management of all lost and found items as per site policies.
• Deals with staff and the public in a confident, professional manner and de‑escalates volatile situations, e.g., liaises with people in waiting areas during high volumes or extended wait times to manage expectations and maintain a de‑escalated situation.
• Regularly patrols all interior and exterior buildings and areas of property, including parking areas. Electronically records check‑in points as required by site.
• Shows a professional, visible presence in general exterior area, ED waiting room, at access points, shift changes, and upon request to specific locations (e.g., in view of a particular patient).
• Controls removal of assets and equipment from the building.
• Manages building entry and egress access control as required.
• Monitors surveillance systems, alarms, intrusion detection systems and fire detection.
• Notifies the Security Manager or other designated staff members of any safety hazards, maintenance problems, and other concerns, unusual events, and/or suspicious activity.
• Documents duties performed on shift and involvement of incidents and creates necessary notes and reports.
• Enforces hospital policies as they relate to smoking/vaping on hospital property, including parking lot areas.
• Understands purchaser policies and procedures as they relate to security.
• Performs security escorts, as required.
• Assists, supports, and cooperates with staff, police, fire, and EMS as needed.
• Responds to calls for locking and unlocking doors and elevators, arranging access to controlled areas (e.g., morgue, conference rooms, Family Care Centre, store supplies), as needed.
• Locks and unlocks elevators and places them in fire mode for the fire department, when required.
• Responds on scene to emergency codes (as appropriate per the purchaser) and all other types of security‑related emergencies (e.g., alarms in building security/door access, wandering and duress alerts, etc.) as they occur. Participates in debriefings when requested.
• Responds to secondary sites as required by the purchaser.
• Manages and responds to issues at the parking lot gates and pay stations.
• Performs patient watch / rapid‑response security guard duties, as a replacement or if required.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Must have a valid Ontario Security License.
• High School Diploma required.
• 1–2 years of experience as a security guard.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada up to 40 hours a week.
• Good written and oral communication.
• Good interpersonal skills and problem‑solving abilities.
• First aid and CPR level

• Certified Use of Force training; certified to use handcuffs.

• Montoux test (tuberculosis).
• Measles / Rubella (proof of vaccination or serology).
• Measles / Oreillons (proof of vaccination or serology).
• German Measles or Rubella (proof of vaccination or serology).
• Chicken pox (varicella) (proof of vaccination or serology).
• Covid vaccines—1 shot is mandatory.
• Highly recommended (but not required):
  Hepatitis B – Flu vaccination.

• Remain on your feet or walk continuously (potentially for an entire shift) on different surfaces.
• Occasionally ascend stairs, ramps, or ladders throughout the shift.
• Possess a good knowledge and expertise in all aspects of security/fire emergency procedures, all hospital emergencies.
• Periodically bend or twist at the waist, knees, or neck to complete various tasks.
• Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds.
