Based in central Ottawa, Ashbury College is currently seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for a period of approximately 6 weeks to support our summer programs.

The Summer Nurse plays a central role in supporting the health and well-being of all participants in Ashbury’s summer programs. Stationed in the Wellness Centre, the Summer Nurse ensures consistent first aid coverage, manages health documentation, maintains medical supplies, and provides care and guidance as needed. This position is ideal for a RN with hands‑on camp or school health experience. Please note that the position will be contingent on the completion of a clean vulnerable sector check.

  • Registered Nurse, licensed through a provincial regulatory body, with current Canadian Nurses Association membership
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • AED Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth or in camp/education settings
  • Excellent communication skills in English and French (asset)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to complicated requests, applying tact and discretion

Specific

Responsibilities Include:

  • Wellness Centre Oversight:
    Manage daily operations of the Wellness Centre, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment stocked with required medical and first aid supplies.
  • Lunchtime supervision:
    Presence in the dining hall and outside activity space during participant lunchtime activities to support participant safety and provide first aid as needed
  • First Aid & Emergency Care:
    Provide prompt assessment and care of injuries and illnesses for all campers and staff; coordinate further care or emergency response as appropriate.
  • Kit Maintenance:
    Regularly inspect, replenish, and distribute first aid kits for all summer program areas.
  • Health Documentation:
    Accurately record all medical incidents, treatments, and procedures in line with confidentiality and school protocol.
  • Medication Procedures:
    Oversee safe storage and administration of medications for participants, including documentation, consent, and adherence to individual health plans.
  • Confidentiality:
    Maintain privacy of all health records and comply with current privacy laws and school policy.
  • Guidance & Support:
    Offer health guidance to staff, campers, and families as needed.
  • Any additional nursing tasks requested by the school
