Overview
South-East Ottawa CHC is a Community Health Centre that offers a range of health and social services to residents of Ottawa South. We are seeking several Community Ambassadors to engage in outreach and support health education for people living in SEOCHC neighbourhoods. Working together as part of a larger team, the program aims to enhance the experience and improve health outcomes for people affected by chronic disease and the social determinants of health.
The Community Ambassador plays a key role in supporting the Locally Driven Population Health (LDPH) model by strengthening community engagement, promoting health equity, and improving access to culturally responsive cancer and chronic disease prevention and management supports.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesWorking just 5–10 hours per week, Community Ambassadors will participate in project planning and co-design, review community-facing materials, and complete required training to serve as trusted health ambassadors and advocates within their communities. Using a health promotion approach, they will conduct outreach in the neighbourhoods of Heatherington, Banff/Ledbury, and Herongate; provide community-based health education and awareness; make referrals to programs/services; and assist with navigating services and supports.
The role involves implementing, hosting, or supporting accessible community-based activities that encourage participation and connection. Community Ambassadors collaborate closely with staff and other community partners.
Qualifications- Demonstrate a high level of self-awareness and a proactive approach to personal and professional growth. The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding of their strengths and areas for development and be ready to take on new challenges.
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Excellent ability to build positive rapport with people across diverse lived experiences.
- Commitment to being a conflict resolver and seeking solutions to challenges.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends.
- English essential, written and spoken, French and other languages an asset.
- Proficiency in the use of computer software applications
- Work effectively within a dynamic team environment.
$23.17 - $25.32 + 4% in lieu of benefits
