The Opportunity
The Ottawa Senators are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented intern to join our Digital Communications team as a Social Media Intern. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience with an NHL franchise and become fully engaged in the business of a major league sports team.
As the Social Media Intern with the Ottawa Senator you will play an integral role in the planning and execution of social media initiatives for the 2026-27 season. You’ll support social media strategy, digital campaigns, and fan engagement efforts while gaining real‑world experience in a fast‑paced environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and passionate about sports, marketing, and creative storytelling.

Key Responsibilities- Assist with running the official social media accounts for the Ottawa Senators English and French Social Media Channel, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat, You Tube and Threads
- Maintain and update project management tools that direct social media content execution
- Help with idea generation, content development, planning and scheduling for all social media platforms
- Ideate, shoot, and edit daily videos for the teams’ various accounts as directed
- Provide social coverage on gamedays and other live events
- Evaluate and interpret performance analytics for the purposes of designing fan/follower growth strategies and engagement level improvements
- Work with the Corporate Partnership department to ensure the successful execution of partner‑affiliated social media posts and promotions
- Monitor best practices and trends in organic and branded social media
- Monitor, recognize and implement ongoing improvements to the workflow and output of each channel
- Must be enrolled in a post‑secondary program requiring a placement for credit
- Strong communications skills in English, Bilingual candidates preferred
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, internet and Outlook to effectively perform duties as listed above
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, as well as a strong visual sense of cohesiveness
- Possess strong organizational skills and be detail‑oriented
- Ability to work well both independently and with a team as well, as perform under the stress of deadlines
- Adaptable, and able to react to change productively and assume other tasks as assigned
- Knowledge of the Ottawa market and the NHL is preferred
- The position will be required to lift and stack boxes in excess of 40 lbs.
- Strong writing, editing, and copywriting skills.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and content management tools.
- Creative mindset with an eye for engaging content and brand alignment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proactive, team‑oriented attitude with a passion for sports and marketing.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed based on the schedules of the team.
- Must live in, or be willing to relocate to, Ottawa‑area

What We OfferThis internship offers an annual salary of $37,000, pro‑rated for the duration of the term, along with hands‑on, real‑world experience in the sports industry.
