The Chemical Technician is a multidisciplinary member within the Tomlinson Industrial Waste Division. An ideal Chemical Technician is a team member who must complete work activities under minimal supervision.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES SAFETYThe Chemical Technician must promote a safe work culture and is accountable for the safety of the crew as they work around chemical waste. They must understand the responsibilities of their role, ensuring that proper PPE is used to complete the assigned task(s).
- Know and comply with various safety regulations (Occupational Health and Safety Act) and company safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in daily safety tailgate meetings.
- Conduct daily checks of stored waste at the end of shift.
- Know how to follow the contingency plan in case of an emergency.
The Chemical Technician is primarily responsible for the chemical processing of waste during the assigned shift. This will involve work in lab-pack processing and other processing areas.
The Chemical Technician role will also perform on-site duties at various customer sites that require the skills of a Chemical Technician. This will also include inventory counts, lab-packing activities and sampling from industrial, commercial and institutional sites.
Other duties, as assigned:
- Proper segregation of chemical waste.
- Processing, treatment and disposal of Lab-Pack waste.
- Collecting samples from incoming waste containers.
- Collecting samples of various tanks on site.
- Environmental testing of samples in the laboratory.
- Bench testing of samples.
- Act as a first responder for incoming spill'extérieur; as; to use; noبه? Wait: requiring we keep correct phrase: 'Act as a first responder for incoming spill calls.'
- Be part of the spill response team.
- Provide technical advice to team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Frequent physical work.
- Exposure to the elements – summer heat, rain, cold, etc.
- Long hours may occasionally be required, evening and weekend work.
- Be part of the On-Call Rotation team.
University degree or College diploma in Chemistry or Environmental Sciences.
- In the absence of a degree or a diploma, have a combination of relative education and experience with chemical work in the industrial/hazardous waste industry.
- A minimum 5 years similar chemical work experience within the industrial/hazardous waste industry.
- Minimum two years water treatment experience.
- Must have class G license and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of Ontario Environmental Regulations would be an asset.
- Knowledge in TDGA would be an asset.
- NFPA 472 or HAZWOPER would be an asset.
The expected wage for this position is $28 - $30 per hour. Placement within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including qualifications and impress.
