JOB SUMMARY

The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City. The Materials & Warranty Management section manages the Transit Services Purchasing Operations & Warranty Programs, including materials management and warranty administration, inventory management, tool purchase/management, procuring and expediting goods & services, and maximizing the proceeds of disposition of surplus and obsolete materials.

You ensure the availability of stock for transit bus and facility maintenance, and the accurate recording of inventory activity. You are responsible for general effectiveness of materials management operations within established procedures and guidelines, involving problem resolution and functional supervision of less experienced personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Business Administration, Materials and Operations Management or related field

Minimum of 3 years of materials management and control experience, preferably in a bus and/or automotive parts environment.

KNOWLEDGE

  • City/branch/department policies and procedures affecting Transit Materials Management Operations and the interface with Transit Facilities maintenance and Finance
  • Knowledge of the computerized materials management system
  • Knowledge of mechanical parts and supplies relating to vehicular and facility maintenance
  • Knowledge of inventory control and warehousing practices
  • Knowledge of purchasing, requisitioning and disposal procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • Desirable

    Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SAP systems
  • Mechanical knowledge
  • Ongoing completion of Materials Management certificate courses

  • Possess computer literacy in MS Office Suite in a Windows environment, including use of Intra/Internet
  • Able to work with computerized inventory systems and any other specific computer software used in the section
  • Able to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions
  • Able to provide leadership, coordinate/assign work and functionally supervise others working on teams
  • Able to work with a large volume of numerical information and possess analytical skills for solving problems with data
  • Possess sound interpersonal and oral/written communication skills

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, flexibility and adaptability
  • Possess a work record of good attendance and job performance
  • Able to tolerate limited exposure to noise, dust, grit, oil/grease, fumes and solvents when assigned to a bus maintenance garage environment
