Role and responsibilities

Join the IT team, in the Senior Specialist, Business Continuity position. You will design, lead, and continuously improve CMHC’s enterprise Business Continuity Management (BCM) program as the organization’s subject-matter authority which aims to achieve organizational resilience and reduce business interruption risks. Work alongside our business sectors to translate enterprise risk and resilience objectives into actionable BCM strategies, frameworks, and plans, and provide expert advice to senior leadership to strengthen organizational preparedness and recovery capability.

What you’ll do:

  • Serves as an expert on Business Continuity providing advice and guidance to sector leadership.
  • Acts as the alternate Incident Management Team lead during major incidents who exercises leadership on the overall management for the response and recovery as it relates to business interruptions due to emergency or disaster situations, providing advice, guidance, and recommendations in incident management during high stress situations.
  • Leads the CMHC corporate wide business impact analysis and risk assessment that identifies, quantifies, and qualifies the impacts of loss, interruption, or disruption of CMHC critical activities and support services, as well as provides the data from which appropriate continuity strategies can be determined.
  • Leads the development of the corporate Business Continuity Plan (BCP), and the annual review of sector BCPs, to ensure changes to the business impact analysis, lessons learned from exercises or events, and organizational changes are reflected accordingly to minimize the impact of business interruptions on mission critical services and critical support services.
  • Represents CMHC in government-wide and interdepartmental BCM forums, committees, and initiatives to help set government-wide strategic direction, to share information, practices and lessons learned, and to find efficiencies by fostering joint exercises with other organizations.
  • Ensures BCM program governance and readiness by developing a strategic annual action plan; holding quarterly meetings with BCP coordinators; providing and developing training and awareness to senior management, the Incident Management Team, BCP coordinators, and mission critical employees; testing and exercising all CMHC BCPs along with external vendors supporting CMHC; capturing lessons learned; and monitoring corrective actions accordingly.
