What will you be doing!- Providing oversight on the integration of CNL’s RP program company wide and ensuring implementation of said programs.
- Overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of new CNL procedures and policies to meet regulatory requirements and/or in response to professional technical advances.
- Providing Radiation Protection guidance and delivering data, analysis and presentations to members of the CNL Executive, Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) or other groups as required.
- Tracking and managing the RP performance via Imp Act review, Action Tracking, Contractor Assurance Score (CAS) metrics and reporting as required.
- Ensuring the RP Training Program follows a Systematic Approach to Training when required, meets the needs of our customers and clients and is aligned with the CNL RP Program training requirements.
- Maintaining communications and relationships with the Regulatory Affairs group, and internal and external industry peers.
- Providing management oversight, and line management to the Radiation Protection Managers at Whiteshell and Port Hope to ensure consistent application of the RP Program at these sites in compliance with local CNSC obligations, expectations and within CNL’s Licencing Basis.
- Assisting the Director, Corporate RP in developing and communicating the vision and strategy for Radiation Protection at CNL by providing input into strategic planning for a large team based on own experiences.
- Setting objectives, completing performance reviews and following the disciplinary process for all direct reports within the line.
- Working with Human Resources to achieve recruitment goals including the selection and approval of new hires.
- Ensuring all relevant staff and necessary resources are deployed; and is responsible for the development of contingency plans to anticipate potential risks.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
- Education
- Honours degree in science or engineering. Preferably post graduate degree in health physics or equivalent studies. Alternative education and experience may be approved by the Director, Corporate Radiation Protection.
- Experience
- Minimum of ten years of practical experience in Health Physics, is or was a qualified Health Physicist with experience performing duties at an advanced working level.
- Experience interfacing with regulators, including managing correspondences and regulatory actions.
- Experience of managing the technical, personnel and financial aspects of a Radiation Protection department or related discipline.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate highly complex Radiation Protection issues to a wide range of internal and external customers with a varying degree of knowledge.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and possesses a keen sense of responsibility.
- Demonstrates leadership and management capabilities in Radiation Protection.
- Demonstrated experience making recommendations concerning selection, training, appraisal and discipline of staff.
- Technically skilled to review RP program documents, work of other professionals and facility documents for accuracy, adequacy and compliance with RP program.
- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Safety Nuclear Commission (CNSC) regulations and familiar with other applicable regulatory guidelines and recommendations applicable to CNL.
- Knowledgeable in all aspects of operational Health Physics e.g. RP instrumentation, PPE&C, external and internal dosimetry and radiation protection policies and procedures.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States…
