In this role, you’ll coordinate daily operations, maintenance, and refurbishment projects through the Integrated Work Control process, working closely with area owners, Building Superintendents, and project teams. You’ll manage chemical inventories, support equipment installations, oversee contractors when needed, and contribute to emergency preparedness and laboratory safety protocols.

What will you be doing!
  • Managing Laboratory Maintenance / Operations
    • Developing, maintaining, and managing a maintenance and operations program for a complex group of laboratories in conjunction with the Building Superintendent and area owners:
      • Coordinating with area owners and Building Superintendents, acting as work permit authorizer for all laboratory maintenance activities as part of the Integrated Work Control (IWC) process, including developing work plans and LOTO documentation as required to support work package development. Initiating detailed corrective and preventive maintenance work requests.
      • Attending and constructively participating in the meetings which are part of the maintenance scheduling process, ensuring work is coordinated and ready for execution at pre-defined milestones.
      • Submitting and maintaining up-to-date chemical inventories and asset management across assigned laboratories.
      • Managing procurement of general supplies/consumables across assigned laboratories.
  • Managing Laboratory Projects
    • Supporting project teams in the execution of all S&T projects in the laboratories, including the installation of new equipment and refurbishment activities.
    • Acting as Contractor Supervisor when required.
    • Participating in lab condition assessments and identifying/preparing recommendations for future laboratory upgrades, modifications, remodelling and enhancement projects.
  • Other Duties as Required
    • Supporting emergency preparedness program by preparing/reviewing building emergency procedures and acting as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or Emergent Steward (ES).
    • Supporting the Branch staff by preparing/reviewing Radiological Laboratory Protocols (RLP).
    • Supporting the Branch in completing quarterly inventory checks of S&T equipment assets in the Total Asset System (TAS).
    • Supporting the Branch in performing safety briefs for new staff, students or customers performing work or touring the lab.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What We Are Looking For
  • Education / Experience
    • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology or equivalent formal education, and a minimum of 10 years of facility operations experience or equivalent.
    • 5 years of supervisory experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to execute projects, which require planning and coordinating with various programs.
    • Sound technical knowledge of a broad range of engineering and maintenance requirements.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliverables, ensuring all timelines are met.
    • Ability to recognize critical issues and resolve problems within appropriate parameters by interpreting information and developing unique solutions.
    • Be knowledgeable of applicable quality assurance standards and the CNL management system.
    • Ability to assess vendor/subcontractor/supplier service and make recommendations for changes as required.
    • Ability to provide day‑to‑day oversight to internal and potentially external staff, such as contractors, to deliver results in line with the department’s goals.
    • Must have demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to delegate effectively.
    • Must have the ability to work in a team environment and develop rapport with customers, technical staff, support staff and management.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States…
