  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.

Team Overview

Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, Governance, Trade and Operations, you will join a dynamic and team-oriented unit of legal professionals and provide EDC with legal advice in various areas of law affecting the operations of EDC. Your role will include providing legal advice and handling files in many of the following areas: public procurement and vendor relations, governance, litigation, compliance, employment law, marketing, financial crimes, access to information and privacy.

What

You Will Be Doing
  • Provide legal advice on various matters of law pertaining to the activities of EDC, such as EDC's rights and obligations under EDC contracts, interpretation of internal documentation and legislative requirements in areas of specialty, advice on compliance requirements, including interpreting the Export Development Act, the Financial Administration Act and other relevant statutes
  • Retain and supervise the services of external counsel
  • Provide legal advice and risk mitigation strategies
  • Support the Corporation with a proactive and preventive approach by keeping abreast of relevant legislation and case law and providing legal risk assessments on new legislative requirements
  • Perform other legal advisory duties to EDC as may be required
What We Are Looking For
  • Completion of Undergraduate Degree in Law or other related discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in legal services or equivalent experience
  • Member of the Bar in a Canadian province or territory
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
