Mortgage Enforcement Law Clerk

Legal Support | Ottawa, Ontario (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid – office located near Carling Avenue)
Posting Status: Open until filled
Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 (based on experience)

Overview

A well-established Ottawa law firm is seeking a Mortgage Enforcement Law Clerk to join its growing litigation team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented law clerk with experience in mortgage enforcement, personal loan collections, and litigation support
, who is looking to further develop their expertise in a collaborative and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support lawyers on litigation files, with a strong focus on mortgage enforcement matters. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the mortgage enforcement process from start to finish
  • Communicating directly with debtors, lenders, and property managers for collection purposes
  • Drafting legal documents, correspondence, and reports
  • Preparing and assembling motion records, affidavits, and other court materials
  • Arranging for service of documents and completing court filings
  • Opening, maintaining, and updating files within ACL (Automated Civil Litigation) software
  • Coordinating Bring Forwards (BFs) and tracking key deadlines
  • Maintaining organized and accurate records
  • Assisting with other duties as required to support the litigation team
Qualifications & Experience
  • 2–4 years of experience as a law clerk, legal assistant, or in a litigation support role
  • Experience with mortgage enforcement, power of sale, residential real estate, and/or personal loan collections is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure is an asset
  • Experience using ACL Automated Civil Litigation software is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients, lawyers, and external parties
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Professional, responsive, and positive work ethic
