Position Description

Scrum Master

onsite 3 days per week in Ottawa office

Security Clearance: reliability granted or eligible for reliability clearance

We are hiring a Scrum Master to support one or more Agile delivery pods within a large-scale enterprise transformation program delivering a modern Knowledge Management (KM) solution, including AI-enabled capabilities.

In this role, you will work directly with delivery teams and Product Owners to support backlog-driven execution, facilitate Scrum events, manage delivery flow, and reinforce discipline around priorities and scope. Teams will be delivering a mix of platform, integration, and AI-enabled functionality, and you will help ensure work progresses in a predictable, transparent, and well-managed manner within a scaled Agile delivery model.

You will operate within a broader program structure that includes Agile Coaches and a Project Management Office (PMO), with your focus on day-to-day team delivery, backlog discipline, and continuous improvement at the pod level.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate core Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Support teams in applying Scrum principles, roles, and practices consistently.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that supports self-organization and accountability.
  • Support Product Owners with backlog refinement, story readiness, prioritization, and sprint commitment.
  • Help teams maintain focus on sprint goals and agreed priorities.
  • Monitor flow of work to identify unplanned or ad-hoc activity that may impact delivery commitments.
  • Help teams recognize and surface unplanned work as it arises.
  • Support conversations with Product Owners and stakeholders to ensure new requests are assessed, prioritized, and routed through appropriate backlog or scope control processes.
  • Reinforce transparency around trade-offs when additional work is introduced.
  • Identify, track, and support the resolution of impediments affecting team delivery.
  • Escalate cross-team or systemic impediments through appropriate channels when required.
  • Encourage proactive identification of issues impacting delivery.
  • Facilitate retrospectives that result in actionable improvements.
  • Support teams in experimenting with and adopting improvements to their ways of working.
  • Reinforce Agile values and a continuous improvement mindset within the pod.
  • Coordinate with other Scrum Masters to manage dependencies and alignment across pods.
  • Support participation in Scrum-of-Scrums or similar coordination forums as required.
  • Ensure team-level activities align with program cadence and delivery expectations within a Scaled Agile Framework.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience working as a Scrum Master on Agile software or digital delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting teams that actively apply Scrum principles and practices.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience working with Product Owners and cross-functional delivery teams.
  • Solid understanding of Agile metrics and team-level delivery reporting.
  • Scrum Master certification (e.g., Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I), or equivalent).
Preferred
  • Experience supporting delivery of data-driven or AI-enabled digital products.
  • Experience working in large-scale or multi-team Agile programs.
  • Familiarity with Agile tools used for backlog and sprint management (e.g., Azure Dev Ops, Jira).
  • Exposure to complementary Agile practices (e.g., Kanban, Dev Ops, continuous improvement techniques).
  • Experience working within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or other enterprise-scale Agile delivery models.
  • Advanced Scrum Master certification (e.g., PSM II, CSP).
