About The Royal:
As one of Canada’s foremost mental health care and academic health science centres, The Royal has a clear purpose: to get more people living with mental illness into recovery faster. The Mood and Anxiety Program offers specialized assessment, consultation and treatment to people with complex mood and anxiety disorders. The Social Worker is responsible for providing a full range of client-centered clinical services under the supervision of the Manager, Outpatient Services.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, and risk assessments, including crisis intervention for suicidality, self-harm, and safety concerns.
- Provide individual and group psychotherapy for Mood and Anxiety Disorders using evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, MI, Narrative Therapy, SFT, IPT, trauma-focused therapies, OCD-related interventions).
- Advocate, liaise and consult with interdisciplinary teams and community service providers.
- Work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including participation in treatment planning and consultations.
- Engage client, family, and significant others in the clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies.
- Deliver clinical services in person and via virtual/telemedicine platforms.
- Complete timely, accurate electronic clinical documentation in compliance with hospital, regulatory, and legislative standards.
- Maintain workload measurement and data collection.
- Participate in or lead research, program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to Social Work team activities, peer consultation, education, and provide clinical supervision to students.
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning and knowledge updates.
- Participate in program- and discipline-specific committees and task groups.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination Free policy.
- Master’s degree in Social Work and registration in good standing with OCSWSSW (independent practice).
- Minimum 3 years’ mental health experience (hospital and/or community).
- Competence to perform the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy with training/supervision in CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, CPT, EMDR or related modalities; certification preferred.
- Strong skills in psychosocial assessments, risk assessment, individualized treatment planning, and evidence-based individual, group, and family therapy for complex mood and anxiety disorders.
- Experience delivering and evaluating group therapy for severe and persistent mental illness.
- Expertise in crisis intervention, de-escalation, discharge planning, and navigation of community resources.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, PHIPA, HCCA, RHPA).
- Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.
- Proficient in detailed clinical documentation, care coordination, and collaboration within interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience providing education to patients, families, and community audiences.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High proficiency with electronic health records.
- Person-centered, recovery-oriented approach; knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation and conflict resolution.
- Commitment to best practices, continuous quality improvement, and teamwork.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
Salary Range: 44.67 to 57.90 per hour
