JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of the Safety, Compliance, Training and Development Service is to provide training and development, safety and compliance, and quality and continuous improvement of bus, para transit and light rail services. Services and programs include appropriate safety and job training for transit employees, and the compliance, development and implementation of safety standards to protect the general public.
You are responsible for the oversight and coordination of safety, regulatory compliance and emergency management related programs, services and initiatives within Transit Services. You support management, staff and health and safety committees by providing advice and guidance, developing and maintaining programs and procedures, managing special projects, developing and delivering education and information sessions, conducting hazard identification and risk assessments, monitoring compliance through inspections and audits, conducting accident/incident investigations and making recommendations for improvement.
You also: act as an advisor to all Transit branches by assisting and contributing to the ongoing development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of all health, safety and emergency management programs; support the development/implementation/oversight of various systems, plans, policies, rules and procedures, emergency preparedness and training, business continuity; and coordinate activities with other city partners, federal agencies and other Canadian/international transit authorities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 3 year university degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, science, engineering or other relevant discipline, OR college diploma/certificate in occupational health and safety.
Completion of courses in emergency preparedness and operational risk management is desirable.
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience preferably in a labour intensive and unionized environment, in coordinating and implementing various projects/plans, providing analysis, recommendations and reports, in Occupational Health and Safety.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulatedHealth & Safety certification such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC), Registered Occupational Hygienist/Technologist (ROH/T) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is desirable
