Mental Health Counsellor

Location: Ottawa, ON (On-site)

Salary: $70,100 - $85,000, commensurate with experience

Our client is seeking a Mental Health Counsellor to provide intake, assessments, and counseling services to youth and adolescents. The role involves delivering individual, family, and group services, performing case management, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support client outcomes. This position is within a unionized environment.

• Deliver individual, family, group, and intensive services to clients in line with program demands.
• Perform case management functions, including using an integrated plan of care process.
• Complete approved screening tools with clients.
• Assess client needs and recommend additional resources or multidisciplinary support.
• Support clients in identifying counselling goals and strategies for achievement.
• Utilize recognized therapeutic interventions (CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy) to support goal attainment.
• Advocate with and on behalf of clients as required.
• Lead client case review meetings and multidisciplinary discussions.

• Attend and participate in individual supervision and peer group supervision.
• Participate in training to ensure ongoing development of skills and abilities.
• Contribute to program and service development and evaluation.
• Collaborate and network with internal programs and external community agencies.
• Ensure familiarity with all pertinent legislation.

• Ensure both electronic and physical client files remain current within established guidelines/policies.
• Ensure timely submission of all administrative work.
• Meet standards defined in the Youth and Family Counselling Services Procedural Manual/Policy and Procedures Manual.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or relevant field is essential.
• Membership in good standing with a college authorized to practice Psychotherapy; RP’s grand-parented into CRPO will be considered.
• Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counselling Psychology is an asset.
• Minimum 2 years of experience providing counseling services to youth and their families, including case management.
• Experience delivering family counseling services using a collaborative approach and systemic perspective.
• Knowledge of recognized therapeutic approaches including CBT, DBT, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Capacity to work using a DBT approach is a significant asset.
• Demonstrated ability to assess need for multidisciplinary support or other resources.
• Knowledge of mental health issues in adolescents.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, both autonomously and in a team.
• Oral and written fluency in English and French is essential.
• Flexibility and comfort in working at various locations, which may involve local travel.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
