Overall Purpose

Reporting to the Program Manager, the EDI Specialist is responsible for providing specialized support to the EDI Program, from an equitable work environment (internal/employment) and equitable policing (external/service delivery) perspective.

  • Conducting EDI reviews, providing advice, analyzing research and data, and contributing to improving OPS policies, projects, programs and processes by using: human rights and anti-discrimination approaches, EDI lens, Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+), and other tools.
  • Developing proactive equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives which support the OPS strategic plan, OPSB strategic direction, unit work plans, and relevant legislation.
  • Building capacity for EDI, in a decentralized model, by working with various areas across the organization, sharing best practices and presenting training and learning opportunities.
Major Responsibilities

Conducting EDI reviews, providing advice, analyzing research and data, and contributing to improving OPS policies, projects, programs and processes by using: human rights and anti-discrimination approaches, EDI lens, Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+), and other tools.

  • Develop and analyze EDI related data and other statistical information and provide reports/presentations.
  • Conduct EDI reviews and contribute to improving policies, processes, communications, projects, and other initiatives. Prepare reports to identify or prevent barriers in OPS systems, policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Ensure objectives and measures are developed to evaluate and monitor program performance and initiatives. Identify and resolve problems and risks that may jeopardize the achievement of program goals.
  • Contribute to issues management strategies for incidents or situations involving stakeholders and the police service.
  • Contribute to the design and review of engagement activities and events including dedicated web pages and stakeholder / public sessions, ensuring content is current, accurate, and promotes transparency, communications, and stakeholder engagement.

Assist with and support priority initiatives, projects, and programs, including but not limited to, the Employment Systems Review (ESR)
Develop proactive equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives which support the OPS strategic plan, OPSB strategic direction, unit work plans, and relevant legislation.

  • Work with internal stakeholders and contribute advice to policy, procedure, and process reviews to identify systemic discrimination or other potential barriers.
  • Work with program team members/leads/business owners and identified partners to ensure the development and implementation of various project deliverables.
  • Represent OPS on various local committees to develop internal and external stakeholder relationships and local networks/coalitions for continued learning, best practice sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Foster collaborative leadership and identify partnership opportunities, issues, and risks. Provide subject matter expertise, advice, and recommendations to build capacity and capability for EDI.
  • Develop new initiatives and emerging opportunities and partnerships that build equity, diversity and inclusion within policing that are in line with the strategic plan, workplans, and current related legislation and trends.
  • Provide recommendations for change to existing processes and / or policies or the implementation of new ones.
