Your ImpactAs Director, Government Relations, you will help shape Open Text’s future in Canada and key global markets. This high‑visibility role sits at the intersection of public policy, innovation, and business growth. Working alongside the Vice President, Government Affairs, you will advise executive leadership and advance priorities in technology policy, AI, international trade, and economic development.
You will strengthen Open Text’s influence, expand stakeholder relationships, and unlock growth opportunities, building strong, lasting relationships across the Government of Canada, provincial partners, and key stakeholders—from policymakers and regulators to academic institutions and research organizations. Your insight into policy shifts and ability to connect them to business strategy will help Open Text navigate and shape complex regulatory environments.
Beyond Canada, you will support engagement in priority global markets, including the United States, EU, UK, and APAC, contributing to international policy discussions and trade efforts that support our global growth. Experience with Canada’s Embassy and Trade Commissioner Service is a plus.

WhatThe Role Offers
- Government Engagement:
Build and maintain strong relationships with federal and provincial governments and represent the company’s interests in policy discussions, consultations, and advocacy efforts. - Policy Leadership:
Develop and execute comprehensive government relations strategies that support business goals and regulatory compliance, including monitoring legislative developments and advising on their impacts. - Business Development:
Where and when required, provide strategic guidance and support in Government procurements, and/or engagements in global markets where domestic or foreign Government departments and agencies may be involved. - Global Relations:
Consistent with business development responsibilities, lead and support engagement with foreign governments and global organizations in policy matters and stakeholder relations. - Stakeholder Collaboration and Partnerships:
Work closely with industry associations, economic development agencies, and community organizations to build coalitions and advance shared objectives. Where and when required, support the VP Corporate Citizenship in supporting Canadian and global initiatives, including partnerships with academic and research associations. - Strategic Communications and Planning:
Alongside the VP Government Relations, coordinate and support major communications and marketing efforts led by the Communications and Marketing organizations, including securing the support of Canadian officials in key markets globally, and developing messaging and briefing materials for senior executives. - When required, represent Open Text at Government, Stakeholder and Policy events.
- Provide guidance to internal teams on public policy trends, regulatory risks, and opportunities for engagement.
- Ideally 10 years’ experience in government relations, public affairs, or public policy, preferably in the technology sector.
- Consistent with Federal and Provincial Lobby Guidelines, preference will be given to those in position to communicate with Government officials.
