Our Chalk River location is looking for a Fire Standards Specialist to assist in the review, revision, and development of Fire Protection Program documentation to ensure CNL remains in compliance with license conditions and applicable standards.

What will you be doing!
  • Reviewing governance and supporting documentation to ensure they are accurate and meet current license requirements.
  • Developing and implementing an effective “Fire Protection Documentation Review Program”.
  • Developing, updating and verifying the accuracy of policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring training programs and teaching plans are conducted in accordance with the Training Plan.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the training record‑keeping database to ensure an auditable system is maintained.
  • Reporting to the Manager, Fire Protection Program, the results of internal reviews, audits, and assessments on operational capabilities.
  • Conducting gap analysis against industry best practices and current license and law requirements.
  • Reviewing and identifying areas for improvement and ensuring amendments are completed for existing governance, teaching plans and course documents.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What We Are Looking For
  • Education
    • Bachelor's (Honour) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
    • NFPA 1041 Level I and Level II will be considered an asset.
  • Experience
    • Minimum seven (7) years of related experience.
    • Experience with fire protection systems, including fire water distribution, will be considered an asset.
    • Fire service training experience, including development, implementation and evaluation of training standards, will be considered an asset.
    • Technical report writing and review experience will be considered an asset.
    • Experience in standards development will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) will be considered an asset.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Exchange).
    • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, and capacity for thoroughness and attention to detail.
    • Ability to attain and maintain Group 3 Radiation Protection training.
    • Familiarity with fire protection engineering principles and fire departmental policies, protocols, and operations.
    • Familiarity with nuclear industry standards for developing and implementing fire protection standards.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions
  • Working schedule:
    Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty‑seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
