JOB SUMMARY
You assist the supervisor or designate in performing the following intermediate level engineering functions, as required:
conducting engineering fieldwork including conducting visual surveys, collecting data, taking photographsmonitoring construction operationsconducting general construction site office dutiesEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of second year college or university in mechanical, chemical, environmental or electrical engineering, architectural or civil/structural engineering with a strong computer applications background
Minimum of 1 year but less than 2 years of related experience is required.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of project management principles and phases/life cycles of projects, related systemsapplications and data management toolsKnowledge of aspects of the construction project management and administration processIntermediate level of knowledge of engineering theories, techniques, and procedures or highermathematicsIntermediate level competency in writing and testing computer programsIntermediate level working knowledge of a variety of computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Fox Pro, Map Info, ITX, Oracle, Arc View, AutoCAD, Micro Station 95, data communication protocols, graphics programs, statistical analysis programs, Aperture, SPAN, and IMA7, etc.Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.COMPETENCIES,

Ability to conduct engineering fieldwork and draftingAbility to read engineering plans and specifications, and reportsAbility to read or prepare designs and/or technical drawingsAbility to perform complex calculations including quantity calculationsWorks with sensitive process and analytical instrumentsAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, including participating in meetings, presentations, and interacting with the publicAbility to operate plotter, engineering copier, etc.Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervisionAbility and willingness to work on construction sitesAbility to operate cars and small trucksAbility to operate power hand toolsAbility to recognize process problems to prevent the need for costly repairsAttention to detailStrong analytical skills and sound judgmentStrong communication skills, including tact, patience and assertivenessAbility to prioritize and work independentlyWillingness to enter data for long periods of timeAbility to interact with a variety of people including the general publicOrganized, thoroughAbility to work in an office set in a technical work environmentWillingness to work outside, on construction sites and to walk long distancesStudents must supply own CSA-approved, green patch safety work bootsValid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulatedMust complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
