Atkins

Réalis is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our National Capital Region team. In this role you will be responsible for the mechanical design and execution of a wide variety of major projects, including local, industrial, municipal and hydro‑electric/nuclear markets. The successful candidate will maintain existing client relationships, develop new clients, coordinate work with other offices and disciplines, and satisfy customer expectations and requirements.

Réalis, you will have a passion for mechanical systems in high‑performance buildings of all types. Your technical knowledge of how all mechanical components of building systems—including HVAC, plumbing & fire protection systems—contribute to building energy efficiency will set you apart.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the process and operations for Mechanical Engineering commitments in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion.
  • Develop new business in the Ottawa area and support the growth of the mechanical team in Ottawa. Participate in the divisional strategic planning process and the establishment and implementation of strategic initiatives. Actively develop and maintain important client relationships as part of overall business strategy. Lead local sustainability initiatives and participate in corporate sustainability initiatives to positively advance both corporate and industry developments.
  • Resolve complex design/project execution issues through the development of innovative solutions as required. Apply Project Management principles to the management of own projects and of team members. Establish and implement improvements to existing methods, procedures and tool sets to maximize quality and efficiency of project delivery.
  • Manage the departmental resource assignment for the appropriate projects staffing while ensuring continuous development of staff. Recruit new team members, conduct performance reviews, manage performance, and facilitate training and development opportunities. Provide mentoring, coaching, technical guidance and quality assurance to Mechanical Engineers to ensure the technical adequacy of all mechanical engineering work. Accountable to ensure that all employees in the group are properly qualified and trained to perform their work.
  • Participate in the preparation of estimates and project proposals (or coordinate resources to do so) and approve the estimates for Mechanical Engineering.
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders, the management team, and clients. Provide technical guidance and engineering support for construction activities.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency, accuracy, and neatness of Mechanical Engineering deliverables as part of the corporate QA program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with PEO.
  • 10+ years’ experience in mechanical consulting across various market verticals. Strong business acumen and client‑facing skills. Demonstrated excellent written and oral English communication skills. Commitment to working in a team environment. Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is an asset. Experience with industrial control system design and PLC programming is an asset.
  • Computer skills – MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to occasionally travel within and outside Ontario.
  • Candidate must be capable of obtaining various levels of security clearances.
