Huawei Canada has an immediate permanent opening for a Senior Photonics Engineer.

• Develop high-speed modulators, with a focus on RF design in traveling-wave modulator designs, including traveling line, Balun, biasing and termination circuit design
• Evaluate modulators on different material systems which use various physical effects, including the use of Pockel’s effect, plasma dispersion effect, etc.
• Develop new equalization techniques to enhance device bandwidth or to engineer the dispersion
• Lead the characterization of high-speed modulators, design and validate photonic components, subsystems and circuits
• Define test plans and analyze experimental data
• Collaborate closely with other teams to develop advanced silicon photonics platform

• PhD or Master’s Degree in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
• 5+ years of industry experience in integrated optics, designing photonic components in silicon photonics or III/V materials
• Track record of successful project management of high-speed modulator development
• Hands-on experience with RF modelling tools (CST, HFSS, ADS, COMSOL, Lumerical) and RF characterization of high-speed components
• General knowledge of silicon photonics devices and process flow
• Hands-on experience with layout tools (e.g. Tanner L-Edit, Luceda Ipkiss)
• Experience with Python and Linux is an asset
• Strong team player and creative problem solver with excellent written and oral communication skills
