Intermediate FPGA Engineer (Designer) - Onsite Position

Curtiss-Wright in Ottawa is looking for an intermediate FPGA Engineer to join our engineering team.

You will design and develop new FPGA-based designs targeting ruggedized COTS VPX modules as well as the support of existing products. You will work from concept development, writing product specifications, test plans, VHDL/Verilog coding right through to simulation. You will be responsible for FPGA functional allocation, logic design, HDL coding, simulation, synthesis, place & route, and bitstream generation. You will support the development of the circuit card and the building, test, and debug of prototypes as well as the support of new products during environmental testing and entry into production.

Salary Range: $74,600 - $124,400 plus bonus opportunity

Your Challenge:

  • Interact with internal customers regarding requirements and technical solutions

  • Evaluate requirements and develop FPGA architectures

  • Create specifications for FPGA IP blocks

  • Perform detailed digital logic design and implementation in the latest FPGA technologies

  • Verify HDL designs in simulation and on hardware platforms

  • Participate in planning, scheduling and design resource estimation for project scoping

  • Collaborate with a dynamic group of Engineers responsible for product development

What you Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent

  • 5 yrs + experience in FPGA hardware development

  • Experience/familiarity in the following is an asset:

    • Development of simulation test benches with Modelsim/Questa

    • Xilinx ISE/Vivado tools

    • Xilinx 7-series, MPSoC, Versal Adaptive SoC and Ultrascale+ device families is an asset

    • Designing with embedded processors and C software development is an asset

    • IP integration tools such as Vivado IP Integrator

    • AMD (Xilinx) / Microchip / Altera FPGAs

    • Microchip Libero SoC or Intel Quartus

    • Familiar with hardware test equipment -- logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.

    • Board bringup and debug support using integrated logic analyzers such as Chip Scope

    • Familiarity with principles of high-speed digital circuit board design including signal integrity concepts

    • Requirements capture, analysis, and tracking

    • High-speed serial interfaces and related IPs

    • TCL or other automation scripts

    • FPGA resource utilization estimation and resource power estimation

Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop detailed FPGA architectures

  • Demonstrated drive and ability to achieve goals in an innovative and fast paced environment

  • Strong understanding of an FPGA design flow, including RTL design with System Verilog/Verilog/VHDL, simulation, logic synthesis and timing closure

  • Strong debug and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Results-oriented team player who leads by example, holds themselves accountable for performance, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and champions process improvement initiatives
