Overview

Term EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT C.U.P.E. 2357. The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is seeking a term Educational Assistant for the school indicated. The address of the school can be found on our site.

Role

and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the school principal and the instructional supervision of the classroom teacher, the Educational Assistant is hired:

  • as a support staff in a classroom where there is a child with specific needs to be met (developmentally delayed, physically disabled, deaf, blind, or experiencing behaviour/social/medical problems);
  • in a special education classroom (social adjustment, communication, learning disability);
  • to provide support in the students’ academic development; respond to the students’ physical, emotional and hygienic needs (e.g., toileting); and act as a team member of the school in any area which may directly assist the assigned student(s), or may contribute to the educational program as a whole;
  • and perform other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • a secondary school diploma;
  • a 2 year Community college diploma in a related field (e.g., DSW, CYW, SSW or a University Degree in a child related field of study);
  • 2 years of relevant experience working with children with a variety of physical, intellectual disabilities and behavioural or other learning difficulties.
Assets (In Addition, The Following Will Be Considered An Asset)
  • knowledge of PICS, PECS, ABA, signing, Braille;
  • Behaviour Science certificate;
  • special feeding techniques;
  • CPR/First Aid, CPI (NCI) and Diabetic Monitoring; the ability to show initiative; excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • ability to establish a rapport with children;
  • Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Salary and Status

Annual Salary:
Hourly wage between $26.24 to $32.41 plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay. Status:
To be considered you must be available to work based on the start and end date of the term assignment.
