Registered Early Childhood Educator (Casual) — Woodroffe HS, Queen Elizabeth PS, Shingwàkons PS
DutiesUnder the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Registered Early Childhood Educator provides high quality and effective play‑based education to support enhanced learning and cognitive, emotional and social development in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act; CCEYA and the policies established by the Ottawa‑Carleton District School Board. Using a strong working knowledge and application of How Does Learning Happen, Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years as well as the College of ECEs Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice that is integrated into their daily practice, the Early Childhood Educator also provides a safe and caring environment for the needs of infant, toddler and preschool children.
Qualificationsand Required Knowledge and Education
- A thorough understanding of early childhood development and its application in the infant, toddler, preschool environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal with parents, involved community services, and the ability to use tact and discretion; demonstrates sensitivity to individual needs of children in a multi‑cultural environment; demonstrates initiative and creativity and adapts well to changing demands.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- These skills would normally be acquired through completion of a two‑year community college program in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent.
- Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is required.
- A minimum of one (1) year of related experience is required.
- Valid First Aid certification/CPR is required.
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C Certificate is required.
- Police record check for the vulnerable sector for applicants 6 months old or less is required for external applicants.
- Proof of immunization to MMR and Tdap is required.
