Job Description

Les droits et enjeux queer sont très présents sur campus et sont souvent mis de côté et ignorés. Le Centre de la fierté recherche une candidate qui comprend la communauté queer dans une perspective intersectionnelle pour contester activement ces dynamiques et promouvoir la légalité et l’équité sur tous les fronts dans la communauté de l’Université d’Ottawa.

Queer rights and issues are very present on campus and are often sidelined and ignored. The Pride Centre is looking for a candidate who understands the queer community from an intersectional perspective to actively challenge these dynamics and promote equality and equity on all fronts throughout the uOttawa community.

Responsibilities
  • Remaining up-to-date on developments on intersectional queer issues while actively engaging in self‑directed learning to facilitate learning, unlearning and relearning.
  • Ensuring the ongoing development, growth, increased visibility and promotion of the Pride Centre, its services, campaigns and its programs.
  • Perform administrative duties such as answering emails, writing letters, responding to phone calls, writing reports, planning programs, developing resource lists, etc.
  • Participate in training workshops and events to expand educational background and professional skills required for the work at the Pride Centre and the UOSU as a whole.
  • Prepare and host regular Pride Centre events for students on campus such as discussion groups, workshops and training.
  • Collaborate and establish partnerships with other UOSU departments, clubs or off‑campus organizations as required by the team.
  • Maintain a database of contacts to collaborate on various kinds of events with information from volunteers, similar or interested parties, external agencies on and off campus, organizations recognized by student bodies, NGOs, etc.
  • Ensure all the payment information is received to pay for any event expenses and communicate with the Coordinator of the Pride Centre and the Director of Equity.
  • Assist in maintaining the Pride Centre Newsletter, emails, Facebook, Instagram, Blue Sky, Tik Tok, website and all other social media and outreach channels, and continue to develop an outreach strategy to engage students at the University of Ottawa.
  • Contribute to the positive image and upbringing of the UOSU, promoting positivity and professionalism in the UOSU environment.
  • Offer workshops on different queer topics to student clubs, RSGs and uOttawa faculties.
  • Create and perform consistent tabling schedules often in collaboration with off‑campus organizations.
  • Schedule and run class talks and other on‑campus awareness activities.
  • Other related duties.
Qualifications
  • Must be a student at the University of Ottawa.
  • Experience in workshop, event and discussion group creation and group facilitation.
  • Experience working with students from marginalized populations and knowledge of intersectionality.
