Position PurposeLeads the development, implementation, and assessment of learning experiences in residence that contribute to the personal, professional, and social development of students. Continuously assesses and evaluates initiatives to ensure the needs of all residence students are being met, including undergraduate, graduate, and international students. The objective of these initiatives is intended to support the University mandate for academic success and student learning outside the classroom.
Contributes to a superior learning experience for students living in residence, encouraging student participation in the community, fostering a strong sense of belonging, contributing to student success and retention and in turn, creating a competitive advantage for the University.
Collaborates on learning and assessment opportunities for the Wellness and Recreation sector including educational and sociocultural programming, student wellbeing, student conduct and student support.
Responsibilities- Leads the development, implementation, and assessment of Residence Life’s curricular learning model. Applies equity, diversity, and recovery principles in the delivery of services and support. Serves as primary contact for, and actively collaborates with, a variety of stakeholders in the delivery of the curricular approach (a scaffolded learning model) to learning in residence and within the Wellness and Recreation sector.
- Provides leadership and guidance to the Residence Life team to ensure learning experiences (including Living Learning Communities and student staff training), services, programs and support to students are delivered using a curricular approach.
- Liaises with key campus stakeholders to ensure all learning experiences are delivered according to the principles and objectives of Wellness and Recreation’s mandate, and in compliance with established policies and guidelines. Ensures learning experiences, programs and services meet stakeholder expectations and needs, encourages student participation in the University and broader communities, and contributes to a positive student experience overall.
- Ensures that responses and supports for a broad range of issues and challenges that surface in a student residence community, including addressing and managing student behavior, managing and resolving conflicts, and managing risk and incident response, align with the curricular model.
- Liaises with other Wellness and Recreation staff to ensure hiring, training and performance management practices align with learning outcomes and assessment for student staff within the curricular model.
