Contract Administrator – Construction (Ottawa, Ontario)
GFT is seeking a Contract Administrator to fill a position within our Construction Services Group in Ottawa. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Ottawa office.
What You Will Do- Perform Contract Administration duties throughout all phases of construction and rehabilitation ensuring adherence to contract specifications.
- Act as the owner’s representative during construction with assistance from design engineers and field inspectors.
- Prepare monthly progress payment certificates and issue Change Orders.
- Review contractor submissions including traffic control plans, shop drawings, schedule, paving and concrete pour plans, and watermain commissioning plan.
- Coordinate with material testing firm to ensure all mix designs and specified materials are approved in advance of construction.
- Chair pre‑construction, pre‑pave, pre‑concrete pour meetings.
- Review and respond to contractor RFIs.
- Manage change on a fast‑moving project and achieve resolution in a timely manner.
- Be a team player and comfortable with partnering principles and best practice.
- Issue Certificate of Substantial Performance per Construction Act.
- Develop necessary contractual responses in a timely manner to position the owner as a proactive leader.
- Train junior staff in inspections and contract administration.
- Occasional site visits to support site inspections.
- P.Eng or C.E.T.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Contract Administration and Inspections; design experience is a strong asset.
- In‑depth knowledge of OPSD/OPSS standards and construction staging.
- Good understanding of the Occupier H&S Act, the Construction Act, OPSS MUNI 100 General Conditions and Ontario Regulation 406/1 Excess Soil Management.
- Proficient in the use of Builterra platform (Dailies, Progress Payment, Tendering).
- Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Recognized as eligible or active under MTO RAQS (strong asset).
