OREC is a for-profit cooperative accelerating the adoption of clean, community-focused renewable energy solutions. We develop, fund, and manage a growing portfolio of renewable energy assets in Eastern Ontario. With $1.8M in revenue and 22% annual growth, OREC is expanding its team and resources to capture new growth opportunities.
Position OverviewThis new position is key to OREC's growth trajectory, driving the expansion of our asset portfolio through the development of new renewable energy projects and the acquisition of existing assets. This role combines prospecting, relationship management, financial modeling, commercial negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration to engage new project partners in long-term, sustainable business relationships. The Business Development Manager will also help shape OREC's business model as the regulatory context evolves.
Key Responsibilities- Strategy and Opportunity Funnel
:
Own the go-to-market strategy, manage the opportunity funnel, and report on status and progress to ensure sustainable revenue growth. - Business Development
:
Proactively identify, prioritize, and investigate new project development and asset acquisition opportunities in Southern Ontario. - Lead Generation
:
Develop a lead generation program and collaborate with the external Marketing agency on suitable B2B campaigns. - Client Engagement
:
Initiate, nurture, and act as a trusted advisor to prospective partners, conducting discovery meetings to deeply understand client needs and procurement processes. - Technical & Financial Alignment
:
Leverage OREC's engineering and sales support to align technical solutions and perform financial modeling (pricing, feasibility) for new accounts. - Commercial Negotiation
:
Prepare and present proposals, negotiate terms, develop term sheets, and manage complex opportunities through contract signing to achieve or exceed sales targets. - Business Context & Improvement
:
Monitor the business and regulatory landscape to identify new business models, and provide critical feedback to the Marketing and internal teams to drive continuous improvement.
- Post‑secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent lived experience.
- 5+ years in business development, account management, or commercial partnerships.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including experience in pricing, forecasting, budgeting, contract evaluation, and the negotiation of complex business relationships.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and proposal development skills. Open‑minded team player willing to travel in Southern Ontario.
- Experience in renewable energy, utilities, cleantech, or infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with contract structures, SLAs, commercial risk, and public procurement processes.
- Understanding of the Ontario energy sector policy (e.g., Local Generation Program).
- Experience with capacity planning, asset management, or energy‑as‑a‑service models.
- Self‑driven and goal‑oriented strategic thinker

- 20 days paid time off plus 1 week off between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

This role offers a competitive base salary in addition to a compensation incentive tied to successful business generation. The budget for this role is between $100,000 and $150,000 per annum. We will negotiate the exact formula for base and performance incentive.
