American Consultants is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Registered Nurse specializing in Operating Room (OR) procedures to join our dynamic healthcare team in Othello, WA. This role offers the opportunity to provide exceptional perioperative care across diverse surgical settings, including outpatient and inpatient surgeries. The ideal candidate will possess extensive OR experience, demonstrate proficiency with advanced medical technologies, and be committed to delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care.

As a travel nurse, you will have the chance to work in a variety of healthcare environments, expanding your expertise while making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists with sterile techniques, instrument handling, and maintaining aseptic environments.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, assess physiological status, and respond promptly to any changes or complications.
  • Administer medications, including anesthesia agents and other perioperative drugs, following strict protocols.
  • Ensure proper documentation of patient assessments, surgical procedures, and post-operative care using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including surgical technologists, anesthesiologists, and support staff to facilitate smooth surgical workflows.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control standards and OSHA regulations throughout all procedures.
  • Educate patients about preoperative preparations and post-operative recovery processes to promote understanding and compliance.
  • Manage emergency situations effectively within the operating room environment, utilizing advanced skills in airway management and acute pain control.
  • Support discharge planning by coordinating with case managers for post-surgical care needs.

Skills

  • Proven experience working in an operating room setting with proficiency in OR procedures and aseptic techniques.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, suturing techniques, and sterile processing protocols.
  • Experience administering injections, IV infusions, and managing ventilators during perioperative care.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, anatomy knowledge, and physiological evaluations.
  • Skilled in emergency response protocols including airway management and acute pain management strategies.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to surgery, anesthesia, and pharmacology.
  • Critical care experience is highly desirable; familiarity with Level I/II trauma centers enhances suitability.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, patients with disabilities or developmental challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and patient education.
