At Mahaska Health the RN, LPN, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will be responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, but may not give medical advice without collaboration with the provider. Directs and guides patient teaching, and provides assistance to the physician, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant in all aspects, while maintaining standards of professional nursing in accordance with the established methods and procedures of Mahaska Health Partnership and the Medical Group.
EssentialJob Functions
- All duties will be performed per the scope of practice and clinic policy.
- Assesses and documents physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients at clinic.
- Establishes treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnosis.
- Documents nursing intervention and patient response.
- Prepares for and assists with office procedures.
- Accurately prepares and administers medications as directed by provider.
- Documents and reports adverse effects of medications.
- Properly documents immunizations, medications.
- Performs procedures such as (but not limited to) injections, immunizations, phlebotomy, tympanogram, EKGs, vision screening, etc.
- Makes referrals to other providers and facilities as directed by the provider.
- Prioritizes and returns phone calls effectively and in a timely manner.
- Reports test results to patients with instructions from a provider in a timely manner.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Uses the Electronic Medical Record system according to established guidelines.
- Monitors, and records dates/outdates in sample medication closet.
- Responsible for keeping exam rooms cleaned and stocked, and replenishing supplies and meds as indicated.
- Provides patient and family education at their level of understanding.
- Organizes workload effectively to accomplish patient care in a timely manner.
- Conducts self in accordance with Mahaska Health Partnership’s confidentiality policy and follows all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
- Maintains a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the person’s unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Health Partnership’s Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).
- Attends required in-service programs and staff meetings.
- All other duties as assigned or requested.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
- Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize your work.
- Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to effectively calm patients and deal with distressed and/or agitated patients and their families.
- Will be required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of the start date.
- Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
- Understand and comply with the requirements of MHP’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all supporting policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
- Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Practice policy and as requested by the supervisor.
- Consistently support the Compliance Program through personal example; the provision of day-to-day instruction and correction to employees regarding compliance-related issues; application of appropriate discipline as required for compliance violations; and ongoing monitoring of activities and work product in areas of responsibility with respect to compliance-related issues.
