Job Description
Supports and assists the Department Manager in administering and coordinating the activities of the plant's warehouse and logistics operation to ensure we are managing the operation in a cost‑effective manner. The main responsibility is to review and route all releases from Customer Service to carriers for delivery to our customers.
What You Get to Do- Review and route all releases from Customer Service.
- Determine if shipment is a truckload or less than truckload (LTL) quantity.
- Analyze releases to determine if orders of LTL can be combined into truckload shipments.
- Determine if material is produced and ready for shipment.
- Route by carrier through Mercury Gate System.
- Send information to carrier to be picked up.
- Develop and send LTL routing sheets to LTL carriers daily.
- Communicate with Customer Service and Logistics Supervisors daily.
- Bids out all truckloads to corporate truckload carriers and brokers, awarding bids based on pricing and service to the winning carrier or broker.
- Set delivery appointments with customers for truckload shipments.
- Communicate with Customer Service on transit issues or delays on shipments.
- Communicate with Customer Service on release issues, items not ready in time to ship, or quality holds, and work out revisions to shipments with customer‑service reps based on related issues.
- Back up inventory control for shipment entries into customer carrier portals/systems for customer‑paid (CPU) shipments.
- Communicate with customer brokers on shipments when issues arise within the customer portals or related to material not ready, too heavy, or on quality hold.
- Work directly with Logistics specialists to develop two‑stop truckloads, control freight costs for both LTL and truckload shipments, and maximize truckload weights to above a 35,000 lb average.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet critical deadlines and frequently change priorities.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Computer literate (MS Excel and Word); ability to type and enter data.
- Problem‑solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Associate's Degree or equivalent world experience, preferred.
- 2‑5 years of experience in logistics/freight in a manufacturing environment.
