Position Summary
The Mechanical Assembly Team Leader will lead work teams to accomplish the following priorities: teamwork, safety, quality, employee performance and documentation, customer service, cost and production. This role will actively participate in the training of employees and adherence to standard operating procedures.
Major Responsibilities- Studies job packet for accuracy, notifying appropriate individuals of any errors.
- Studies blueprints to establish logical assembly sequence, at times for multiple jobs.
- Directs a team of individuals working on a given assembly job.
- Provides feedback on employee performance to the manufacturing manager and completes performance reviews as required.
- Assists in the assembly of assigned jobs.
- Performs spot inspections throughout the assembly process to ensure the product is being assembled correctly the first time and that the job is on schedule according to established due dates.
- Prepares accurate updates for the production schedule and notifies other members of the production team of any issues and concerns.
- Manages logistics for teardown and shipment.
- Ensures QIK forms have complete information and are filled out accurately.
- Returns excess parts for restocking at completion and shipment of a job.
- Ensures that assemblers keep a clean and organized work area.
- Ensures proper and accurate completion of labor reports, material issues, kit lists, scrap reports and material movement.
- Represents the Assembly department at FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests).
- Works with Assembly Trainers to ensure that new hires and cross training are completed on the shop floor.
- Responsible for ensuring accuracy on daily timesheets and time-off requests.
- Completes 30/60/90-day reviews and conducts One-on-Ones with employees.
- Assists with safety walks as required.
- Verifies proper documentation of Blue Book (Quality Document) for accuracy and completeness.
- Assists with continuous improvement activities.
- Works closely with team leads from Fabrication, Weld, Paint and material to ensure proper flow of parts and assemblies so as to keep builds on time and within budget.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities, as required.
- Prioritize, organize, and delegate assignments.
- Supervise/manage/direct the selection, training, development, and appraisal of personnel.
- Direction: receive guidance with respect to general objectives. In the majority of tasks and projects assigned, determine methods, work sequence, scheduling, and how to achieve objectives of assignments. Operate within specific policy guidelines.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Five to seven years related experience and/or training and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
