Pharmacy Operations Manager – Walgreens

Responsibilities
  • Accountable for day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities, ensuring efficient workflow and a positive patient experience.
  • Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and cashiers under pharmacist supervision, ensuring compliance with company policies, laws, regulations, and ethics.
  • Select, schedule, train, coach, and perform performance management of pharmacy technicians, including discipline and termination decisions.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving complaints, and answering non-clinical questions.
  • Build strong relationships by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, enhancing the healthcare experience.
Operations
  • Assist pharmacists with patient care tasks such as registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification.
  • Execute non-clinical patient calls under pharmacist supervision.
  • Delegate and manage non-clinical pharmacy tasks, ensuring timely completion and accountability.
  • Prepare and file required reports and records for the company and government agencies.
  • Coordinate pharmacy schedules, allocate hours, and maintain cleanliness and inventory.
  • Execute technology rollouts, champion change, and ensure proper equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Maintain compliance with Good Faith Dispensing policies and inventory management.
  • Communicate prescription errors and adhere to quality improvement programs.
  • Process insurance claims accurately, follow up with insurers and providers, and participate in audits.
  • Support Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in financial, operational, and quality analysis.
  • Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacy participation in immunization clinics and events.
People & Performance Management
  • Lead performance management, including discipline and termination decisions, and administer constructive discipline policy.
  • Hire, onboard, train, and schedule pharmacy technicians, ensuring timely training completion.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and provide training or learning modules.
  • Monitor licensure, registration, and certification compliance, utilizing Walgreens resources.
  • Ensure adherence to selection, recruitment, and training procedures.
Training & Personal Development
  • Maintain PTCB certification and other required state certifications.
  • Continuously enhance pharmacy and healthcare knowledge through training and education credits.
  • Pursue professional development, seek feedback, and utilize mentorship.
Communication
  • Communicate with pharmacy team and relay messages from support center or key emails.
  • Participate in key store/pharmacy meetings and weekly check-ins.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Minimum one year of pharmacy technician experience in retail or hospital setting.
  • Fluency in English reading, writing, speaking (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except specified locations).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous people management or leadership experience.
  • Previous Walgreens experience with exceeding performance evaluation.

Salary Range

Hourly: $22.50 – $31.00 per hour (depends on geography, skills, experience).
