JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Health Physics Technologist.

Reporting to the Manager Dosimetry, this position is responsible to operate, monitor, and maintain both external and internal dosimetry systems, performing specialized measurements, analyses, monitoring, and testing as required by health physics dosimetry programs or environmental monitoring, all in accordance with approved laboratory procedures.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Operate, monitor, and maintain external and internal dosimetry systems in accordance with established standards to measure radiation doses, including whole body, extremity, and bioassay measurements (urine, feces, blood), in-vivo testing, and personal workplace monitoring.

Perform specialized measurement, analysis, monitoring, and testing as required by health physics, and configure computers to laboratory instrumentation.

Operate, check, and maintain environmental monitoring and radioactive waste process monitoring systems, and conduct radiological analysis on collected samples.

Maintain a clean laboratory environment and ensure all equipment, materials, and instruments are in good working condition, properly cleaned, and stored; safely handle, test, and dispose of samples and chemicals.

Prepare and maintain lab records, radioactive source records, log books, test results, investigations, projects, and non-conformance events in compliance with licensing requirements.

Prepare chemical and radiological solutions and standards, identify and resolve abnormal analyses perform non-routine tests, develop alternative analytical methods, and commission new or repaired equipment.

Participate in the design and development of new systems and procedures, conduct quality control and assurance for dosimetry devices, operate company vehicles for fieldwork, respond to emergencies as need, and ensure health and safety compliance for self and others.

Grade 12, plus 3 years community college in a related field
