This is a rare opportunity to lead and build a world‑class steel processing operation from the ground up, located within one of the most advanced steel manufacturing ecosystems in North America.
Initial operations will focus on cold rolled, coated, pre‑painted, with planned expansion into additional processing capabilities.
We are seeking a technically elite, hands‑on General Manager with deep slitting expertise, strong operational discipline, and a forward‑looking mindset toward automation, packaging, and scalable material flow.

Ferrosource is currently developing a state‑of‑the‑art coil processing center located directly on the campus of Big River Steel. This new facility will provide advanced slitting, cut‑to‑length, and warehousing capabilities, supporting high‑volume, high‑quality processing for strategic customers.
The operation is being built as a modern, safety‑driven plant with a strong emphasis on uptime, material flow, and operational excellence. The General Manager will play a central role in launching, scaling, and running this new facility, with meaningful responsibility and autonomy from day one.
Position SummaryThe General Manager is responsible for end‑to‑end leadership of plant operations, including production, slitting process excellence, quality control, slit coil packaging, maintenance, safety, and continuous improvement, and facility P&L.
This role serves as the technical authority for slitting and coil processing, while building the systems, standards, and culture required to support a high‑performance, growth‑oriented operation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all day‑to‑day operations including production, maintenance, quality, packaging, and logistics
- Build, train, and develop a high‑performing operations team
- Establish standard work, operating discipline, and accountability systems
- Foster a safety‑first, continuous improvement culture
- Serve as the technical subject‑matter expert for slitting operations
- Oversee and validate all slitter setups, including:
- Knife selection, metallurgy, overlap, clearances, and wear
- Spacer selection, stack accuracy, and arbor loading
- Overarm alignment, recoiler setup, and strip stability
- Troubleshoot and correct slitting defects including:
- Excessive burr
- Camber and edge wave
- Width variation and surface damage
- Support expansion into heavier gauge materials and future cut‑to‑length operations
- Establish and enforce robust quality systems aligned with customer specifications
- Ensure consistent inspection, documentation, and control of:
- Gauge, width, hardness, burr height, camber, and surface condition
- Lead root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for non‑conforming material
- Support ISO‑based quality systems and continuous improvement initiatives
- Act as a technical partner to sales, trading, and customers on quality matters
- Own end‑to‑end performance of slit coil packaging operations, including banding, wrapping, labeling, stacking, and load preparation
- Ensure packaging methods protect edge quality, surface integrity, and dimensional stability
- Define and standardize packaging specifications by product type, gauge, and customer requirements
- Optimize flow from slitter to packaging to shipping, minimizing handling, congestion, and WIP accumulation
- Lead a progressive automation roadmap for slit coil packaging and material handling, including:
- Automated banding and wrapping systems
- Conveyance, coil transfer, and staging solutions
- Throughput balancing between slitting and packaging operations
- Identify opportunities to:
- Reduce manual handling and ergonomic risk
- Improve consistency, labor efficiency, and throughput (OEE)
- Partner with engineering, equipment suppliers, and integrators on:
