Job Description:
Position Summary
The Director of Curriculum and Instruction provides visionary leadership, strategic planning, and oversight for the district's instructional program. This position ensures the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, assessment, professional learning, and instructional practices across all schools. The Director leads data-driven academic decision-making, supervises instructional coaches, coordinates Section 504 services, and supports novice teacher mentoring to promote high levels of student achievement.
This position serves as a key member of the Superintendent's Cabinet and provides strategic leadership to ensure high levels of student achievement, understanding of and the integral use of district curriculum, and staff support. The position also plays a critical role in advancing the district's mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Development and Implementation
Lead the development, alignment, and continuous improvement of district curriculum to state standards and graduation requirements.
Ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment across grade levels and content areas. Oversee curriculum adoption cycles, instructional materials selection, and program evaluation.
Monitor implementation fidelity and provide support to schools to ensure high-quality instruction.
Facilitate curriculum committees and teacher leadership teams.
District Assessment and Accountability
Coordinate the development and administration of district-wide benchmark and formative assessments.
Oversee state assessment preparation, logistics, and compliance.
Ensure assessment alignment to standards and district curriculum.
Collaborate with principals and their leadership teams to analyze assessment results and identify trends, gaps, and targeted interventions.
Prepare district academic reports for the superintendent, board, and state reporting requirements.
District Professional Development
Design and implement a comprehensive district professional learning plan aligned to strategic goals.
Coordinate professional development focused on instructional best practices, literacy, mathematics, data use, and effective interventions.
Evaluate the effectiveness of professional learning initiatives and adjust based on data and feedback.
Support principals in developing building-level professional learning plans.
Supervision and Leadership of Instructional Coaches
Supervise, evaluate, and support instructional coaches.
Establish clear coaching expectations aligned to district instructional priorities.
Provide ongoing professional learning for coaches.
Monitor coaching cycles, data collection, and impact on teacher practice and student achievement.
Ensure coaching work aligns with district goals and school improvement plans.
District 504 Coordinator
Serve as the district's Section 504 Coordinator.
Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Oversee development and implementation of 504 plans.
Provide training to administrators and staff regarding 504 procedures and legal requirements.
Monitor documentation, procedural safeguards, and equitable access to services.
Collaborate with campus 504 coordinators.
Novice Teacher Mentoring and Induction
Design and oversee a district novice teacher mentoring program.
Conduct non-evaluative observations and hold debrief sessions to provide actionable, confidential feedback.
Coordinate mentor selection, training, and support.
Collaborate with principals to support teacher retention and instructional growth.
Collaborate with HR to ensure licensure compliance to meet standards.
Monitor new teacher progress and collaborate with HR to provide structured induction support through school policies, procedures, technology, and district resources.
Data Analysis and Academic Decision-Making
Lead district-wide data analysis processes to inform instructional decisions.
Facilitate data review cycles with school leadership teams.
Identify achievement trends and recommend targeted strategies for improvement.
Support development and monitoring of school improvement plans.
Use multiple data sources (assessment, attendance, behavior, graduation rates, etc.) to guide district academic priorities.
Leadership Responsibilities
Serve as a member of the district leadership team.
Collaborate with principals to strengthen instructional leadership capacity.
Communicate clearly and consistently with stakeholders regarding curriculum, assessment, and academic performance.
Support strategic planning and district goal-setting processes.
Model high expectations, continuous improvement, and professional integrity.
Oversee the Professional Learning Community process across campuses.
Other duties assigned by the superintendent.
Qualifications
Education:
* Master's Degree required;
Educational Specialist or Doctorate preferred.
Certification:
* Valid Arkansas administrator licensure.
