WDVA Nursing Assistant Certified, On-Call, Washington Soldiers

About the Role

Washington Soldiers Home invites applications for a Nursing Assistant Certified with on‑call responsibilities. This role supports our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" by delivering essential quality‑of‑life care to Veterans.

• 24/7 facility differential pay: eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" (additional $1.00 per hour of basic shift premium). The premium expires on June 29, 2027.

Work schedule:

on‑call as needed or rotational.

• Hybrid/Telework: not eligible.

• Assist residents with positioning, transferring, ambulation, and preventive infection control.
• Respond to call lights, internal and external emergencies, and facility codes.
• Record care, vital signs, and observations.
• Assist residents with personal clothing, belongings, bathing, dressing, grooming, and hygiene.
• Assist with therapies and treatment under licensed personnel direction; perform motion exercises as needed.
• Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data; document intake/output records.
• Perform basic nursing procedures such as anti‑embolism stockings, creams or lotions, specimen collection, etc.
• Perform other related tasks as required.

• Current and valid Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification.
• Active OBRA check.
• Proficient in English (read, write, speak).
• High School diploma or GED.
• At least 6 months of customer‑service experience in a healthcare setting or 6 months of direct patient‑care experience.
• Ability to perform data entry, maintain confidentiality, and provide a positive living environment for residents.

• Experience with daily activities of care, personal hygiene, sanitation, record keeping, infection control, and residents’ rights.

• Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years per WDVA Policy 615.000.
• Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000.
• Medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required.
• Lift up to 60 lbs.; reach minimum 36 inches; sufficient strength to push or pull; walk, sit, and bend unrestrictedly during the entire shift.
• Maintain a valid practical nursing license from the State of Washington Department of Health.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
• Complete orientation and all mandatory trainings within mandated time frames.
• Become familiar with and comply with all DVA policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Sign the confidentiality statement.
• For travel positions: valid unrestricted driver’s license and insurance for private vehicle use on state business.
• Possess work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship for present or future visas.
