SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Photo Enforcement Court Clerk is a term-limited part-time (.5 FTE) Federal Labor Standard Act non-exempt, non-Civil Service position. A typical schedule is 20 hours per week Monday through Friday 1pm to 5pm, with semi-flexible hours for Court days, time-off coverage for other court staff and occasional after-hours call-out. This is a term-limited position not guaranteed to extend beyond August 1, 2026.

The Photo-enforcement Court Clerk performs a wide variety of clerical and accounting tasks in support of the Orting Municipal Court. The incumbent in this position assists in maintaining all court documents and correspondence to ensure that the court functions efficiently and properly. This position required regular public relations involvement, some independent judgement and organizational skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties:

  • File maintenance procedures and filing systems
  • Clerical practices and procedures
  • Keyboarding, ten-key and data-entry
  • Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel)

  • Use a variety of common office equipment
  • Interact and communicate courteously, patiently and efficiently with the public, police, attorneys and personnel from related agencies at all times.

Education & Experience Guidelines:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
  • One (1) year office or professional environment (required)
  • One (1) year in municipal court setting (preferred)
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Process photo enforcement violations.
  • Processes citations, warrants and other legal documents into JIS.
  • Prepare fine payments agreements, monitor files for payment and, within established guidelines, take appropriate action on past-due accounts.
  • Records and maintains records of criminal and traffic citations.
  • Prepare court calendars and case files.
  • Prepare the court traffic and/or criminal court dockets
  • Arranges and coordinates arraignments, mitigation hearings, case reviews and contested hearings.
  • May assist in coordinating trials, including contacting jurors, witnesses, attorneys and defendants.
  • Creates and maintains files pertaining to citations, criminal cases, bench warrants and all other court documents.
  • Attends court and dockets all proceedings, prepares notices of case settings; completes all follow-up work such as setting trials, notifying officers, subpoena witnesses, preparing agency referrals, setting follow-up hearings and making proper notification to the Department of Licensing.
  • Maintain courtroom audio equipment, certification and transcripts of all proceedings for appeal to superior court.
  • Contacts various agencies regarding court referrals, commitments and releases, and processes related paperwork.
  • Acts as liaison between the court and other law-enforcement agencies.
  • Collects, records and deposits all fines assessed by the Court.
  • Maintains accurate accounting for all funds collected.
  • Schedule time payment plans for individuals with financial obligations to the court.
  • Responds to email correspondence and telephone inquiries to the Court.
  • Perform related duties as required.
