Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine correctional duties. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and complex; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.
Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
Correctional Deputy II: This is the journey-level class in the Correctional Deputy Series responsible for performing the full range of duties to ensure proper custody, care, compliance and safety and security of inmates. Positions work independently, exercise judgment and initiative, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
