Starting Salary Depending on Experience and Qualifications

Under close supervision, maintains all the Parks facilities as per Parks and Recreation standards in a safe and professional manner.

  • Acts independently in the development of his/her work schedule and tasks in the absence of the Parks Maintenance Worker III.
  • Applies fertilizer, pesticide and performs over seeding on public turf areas.
  • Conducts and has knowledge in all areas of landscape maintenance, field maintenance, and general building maintenance.
  • Fulfills special assignments as requested by the Parks Maintenance Worker III to meet the needs of the Town.
  • Inspects assigned park buildings, playground equipment, and all associated grounds equipment for safety and creates work orders on areas requiring maintenance.
  • Keeps accurate and organized inventories of Town of Oro Valley Parks Maintenance equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Keeps accurate records of all equipment assigned for maintenance and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Maintains all Parks power equipment to include utility vehicles, groomers, mowers and hand‑held gas‑powered equipment.
  • Makes suggestions to the Parks Maintenance Worker III on completing work and priorities.
  • Meets on a timely basis with the Parks Maintenance Worker III to discuss any pertinent issues, go over weekly goals, and general day‑to‑day operational maintenance needs.
  • Operates and repairs all aspects of the irrigation systems used at Town of Oro Valley Parks.
  • Oversees and utilizes an Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) inmate crew in delivery of services, maintenance of grounds and general labor of various job tasks.
  • Trains level I parks maintenance staff in aspects of grounds maintenance, to include proper use of safety equipment, maintenance standards, and professional interaction with our Park patrons.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate machinery and power tools.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of applicable Town, State and Federal statutes, ordinances, codes, rules and regulations pertaining to public park maintenance.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety guidelines.
  • Knowledge of park maintenance and beautification methods.
  • Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
  • Skill in cleaning and maintaining park grounds, park equipment and facilities.
  • Skill in computer literacy.
  • Skill in irrigation installation and repair.
  • Skill in operating heavy equipment used in maintenance and landscaping duties.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in landscaping, irrigation and/or turf management.
  • Must have all the minimum qualifications of Maintenance Worker I.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Special Qualifications
  • Must be able to obtain an Arizona Pesticide Applicator Certification Category 3 & 4 within six (6) months of hire or promotion.
  • Must be able to obtain Arizona Department of Corrections certification of inmate supervision within six (6) months of hire or promotion.
Other Requirements
  • Employment in this position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Town and work overtime as required.
  • Must be capable of lifting or moving up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
