Trades worker (Parks Maintenance)

Summary:

Performs skilled repairs and installation of various types of park and playground equipment City-wide. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Foreman. This position may require availability to work rotating on-call shifts, nights and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains and repairs park facilities.

• Inspects parks for vandalism and safety issues.

• Assembles and installs various items, but not limited to the following: picnic tables, trash containers, bike racks, sheds, desks, chairs, etc.

• Operates various power equipment as needed to perform job functions.

• Performs daily work orders, vendor compliance reports, and other reports as needed.

• Participates in on-call and after-hours duties as assigned. Must be available for overtime and emergency call-outs when necessary.

• Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations and may be temporarily assigned to other duties, locations, and shifts.

• Meets attendance requirements.

• Promotes positive customer service environment internally and externally.

• Performs other job related functions as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assists in supervising and instructing work site crew in daily operations. May perform other supervisory duties as assigned.

Education and/or

Experience:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent recognized certificate. Three (3) years of experience involving highly skilled repair and maintenance of parks similar to those owned or operated by the City.

Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Possession of a valid Florida drivers' license.

• Must be able to obtain a Playground Safety Inspector Certification through National Recreation and Parks Association within six months of hire.

• Trade specific license or certification may be required based on area of expertise.

• Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, materials and techniques of a special trade.

• Considerable knowledge of the safety requirements, state and local codes, and general orders relating to the building, metal and mechanical trades.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands:

• Sufficient physical strength and agility to do manual labor; often for extended periods of time and under adverse weather conditions.

• Ability to move up to 75 lbs. over a distance of 100 feet.

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle under all weather conditions any time of day or night.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

• Sufficient auditory perception and speaking ability for radio communication.
