AboutThe Role
The responsible practice medicine with physician supervision including conducting examinations and writing prescriptions. Within physician–physician assistant (PA) relationship, PAs exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. May practice in several primary care areas including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology as well as surgery and surgical subspecialties. May include responsibility for education, research, and administrative services.
WhatYou’ll Be Doing
- Conduct physical exams, assess health status, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and treat illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds. Consult with physicians as needed and refer to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
- Monitor therapies and provide continuity of care.
- Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems. Respond to emergencies including use of CPR.
- Counsel patient/family on preventive health care.
- Document patient information and care in medical record and may maintain department statistical database for research purposes.
- Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of accredited physician assistant program.
- Four years of health care experience prior to applying to PA program, plus one year of experience as PA, preferably in clinic setting.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems, as well as EMR knowledge.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
