Job Summary:

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility. This role involves performing various cleaning tasks, handling minor maintenance, and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for all staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and Maintenance:
    • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in Sanctuary and other designated areas.
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors and floors.
    • Maintain the cleanliness of stairways and entryways.
    • Pick up and dispose of trash from the sanctuary, hallways, parking lot, and outdoor areas.
    • Empty trash bins and replace liners in all designated areas.
    • Clean glass windows, doors and other high touch surfaces.
    • Perform deep cleaning tasks as assigned (e.g., carpet cleaning, high dusting).
    • Replenish supplies in restrooms and break rooms.
  • Facility Upkeep:
    • Monitor and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Facilities Director.
    • Ensure all cleaning equipment and supplies are used and stored properly.
    • Follow established procedures for cleaning and safety protocols.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
    • Follow all safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Communication and Coordination:
    • Communicate effectively with staff and management regarding facility needs and issues.
    • Coordinate with other custodial/facilities staff to ensure efficient and thorough coverage.
  • Other Duties:
    • Assist with set up and breakdown for special events, meetings or special functions.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Facilities Director or Administration.
  • Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Previous experience in custodial work or related field preferred.
    • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning supplies safely.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to lift and move items as needed.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Working Conditions:

    • May require working evenings or weekends.
    • Physical demands include lifting up to 50lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
    • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and possible allergens.
