Job Description

As a Traffic Control Specialist you will work in collaboration with the Facility Manager, Project Managers, and local MOT team to support MOT’s core values and mission to protect our customers’ people, business, and time. You will review and execute temporary traffic control plans and/or standards to ensure work zones are properly installed and maintained, coordinating and communicating with customers to ensure safety.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and maintain channelizing devices and other traffic control equipment per Federal, State, and Local guidelines for complex work zones.
  • Coordinate and communicate work activity for onsite MOT personnel, including protectors (flaggers), TMA drivers, and pilot car operators.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with customers, maintaining a professional approach.
  • Drive company vehicles to transport equipment, trailers, and team members safely and efficiently.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and notify supervisor of any potential safety issues.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to protectors (flaggers) and obtain all required training.
  • Complete all required project documentation: pre-job safety briefings, daily ticket control logs, traffic control inspections, vehicle inspections, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • FDOT Advanced Temporary Traffic Control certification.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with no suspension or revocation.
  • Open availability.
  • Capable of standing 8-12 hours and lifting 80 lbs repeatedly.
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Must follow safety work practices and company safety guidelines.
  • Competent working around high-volume, fast-moving traffic.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Hours of operation may vary based on staffing needs.
  • Typical workweek 50 hours.
  • Majority of time in the field.
  • Work will be in outdoor conditions, inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, dust, asphalt, fumes, moving vehicles, and extremes.
  • Noise levels can be loud.
  • Position may lift or carry objects up to 50 lbs; may require long periods of standing and strenuous physical labor.

  • Competitive pay: $18.00‑19.00 per hour based on experience, overtime opportunities, guaranteed pay increase within the first year.
  • Rapid advancement:
    Potential progression to Senior Protector in 4 months, further growth to Lead Protector, Field Supervisor, or Manager.
