The Apprentice Mechanic is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, repair, and servicing of construction vehicles and equipment used in paving and site work operations. This is an entry-level position designed to provide hands‑on experience and skill development under the direct supervision of experienced mechanics. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Responsibilitiesincluded but not limited to:
- Comply with (and actively promote) all safety policies and procedures, including reporting accidents, incidents, and near‑misses, to uphold the company’s Number One Core Value – Safety first, in everything we do.
- Assist mechanics in performing diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on a variety of equipment, including pavers, rollers, skid steers, trucks, and trailers.
- Learn and apply proper techniques for oil changes, filter replacements, tire repair, lubrication, and fluid checks.
- Support in inspecting equipment for wear and damage and reporting findings to the supervisor.
- Help maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
- Assist with loading/unloading parts and tools, and organizing inventory.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment under supervision and with appropriate training.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Currently enrolled in a Technical College or recently graduated.
- Basic mechanical knowledge or experience working with tools and machinery is a plus.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced technicians.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors.
- Must be dependable and have a strong work ethic.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to adapt to different personalities and management styles.
